God Honors ‘REST’

Rest not only refers to sleep, but also resting your soul.

“And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when He rested from all His work of creation.” ~Genesis 2:3

In Genesis, God dedicated the 7th day of creation for rest. God obviously does not need to sleep and recharge His body. He did this to reflect on His work and create a significance in taking a break. As Christians, we aim to be more like God. One of His 10 Commandments is to “remember the sabbath day.”

“Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your God.” ~Exodus 20:8-10

Now, a day of rest does not mean to sleep all day. We must understand that this day (often Sunday) is a day to worship the Lord and abstain from work. It is a day to spend time with Jesus. Maybe this means going to church or organizing a bible study. I personally love to blast Christian music (I will link a playlist below) and go on a hike, paint, do yoga, pray, write, hoop, and/or dance.

“He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.” ~Psalm 23:2-3

It is important to not only fuel our bodies with rest but to calm our minds. We must take a step back from our busy lives. It is easy to get distracted by all of the day to day routines and obligations. We must take time to focus on the ‘why’, ‘who’ and ‘what’. Why are we working and what are we working for? What really matters? What is our purpose? Who do we cherish? We must make time to honor our creator as He centers all of His efforts on us.

“My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.” ~Psalm 62:1-2

By honoring the sabbath, a fire will light within us that will refocus our priorities and purpose. It will allow the work week to be more fulfilling. A day of rest will energize our souls and wake us up with excitement for hard work days ahead.

So take it easy ❤
